A Spectacular Final Round Surge

Chris Gotterup delivered a masterful performance on Sunday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, to capture the John Deere Classic title. Starting the final round trailing the leaders, Gotterup carded an impressive 9-under 62, vaulting 11 places up the leaderboard to finish at 20-under par.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the 26-year-old, who now shares the lead with Matt Fitzpatrick for the most wins on the PGA Tour this campaign. The performance earned Gotterup his fifth career title and a winner's check of $1.584 million.

How the Tournament Unfolded

The competition was incredibly tight heading into the final day, with Lucas Glover and Lee Hodges sharing the lead at 16-under. A crowded leaderboard featured nine players within four strokes of the top spot, including tournament favorite and former Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson.

Gotterup quickly made his presence known by birdieing five of his first seven holes. The tension peaked on the 17th hole, where he landed a crucial birdie to take the solo lead. The dramatic finish saw Ben Kohles, who had been neck-and-neck with Gotterup, suffer a setback on the 18th hole. Kohles hit his approach into the water, resulting in a double bogey that solidified Gotterup’s path to the trophy.

A Stellar Season for Gotterup

Gotterup’s success in Illinois is the continuation of a remarkable season. His previous victories include the season opener in Hawaii and a playoff win at the WM Phoenix Open. With only one missed cut all season and a notable T10 finish at the PGA Championship, the golfer has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with. He entered the week ranked 14th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
