Details of the Arrest

Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke was detained by authorities in Arkansas this past Wednesday. According to records from the Cross County jail, the professional athlete was taken into custody shortly after 1:00 p.m. local time.

Cross County Sheriff David West indicated that the charges against Clarke include speeding, reckless driving, and the possession of a controlled substance.

A Challenging Season for Clarke

This incident occurs during a difficult period for the 29-year-old player, whose 2025-26 campaign has been severely limited by health setbacks. Clarke appeared in only two games this season; he initially sat out due to knee inflammation and subsequently suffered a calf injury in December, which has kept him sidelined since.

Although there were initial hopes for his return to the hardwood, the Grizzlies officially announced last week that Clarke would be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Recent medical imaging revealed that he requires further recovery time before he can safely resume high-intensity basketball activities.

Injury History and Career Context

Once a consistent fixture in the Memphis rotation, Clarke has struggled with availability over the last three seasons. His recent history includes:

  • A torn Achilles in March 2023, which sidelined him for the remainder of that season and almost the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign.
  • A PCL strain late in the 2024-25 season that prevented him from finishing that year.

Selected by the Grizzlies with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Clarke shares the distinction with Ja Morant as one of the longest-tenured players currently on the team's roster.
