Shane van Gisbergen has claimed his first NASCAR victory at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), winning the Xfinity Series race. The New Zealander started on the front row and dominated much of the event, with only teammate Connor Zilisch able to match his pace early on. However, Zilisch's challenge faded due to brake issues and a late incident.
Van Gisbergen executed a perfect final restart, surging from sixth to first in the closing laps. "Good to finally execute," said SVG. "We had an awesome day. The strategy worked out well." He now looks ahead to Sunday's Cup race, where he will start 13th and aim to extend his streak of road course wins.
Austin Hill finished second, with Sammy Smith in third. The race was marked by several cautions and incidents, including a spin for Zilisch after contact with Corey Day. Despite the chaos up and down the field, van Gisbergen managed the race perfectly to take the checkered flag.
