A Major Boost for Bruins Football

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has announced a substantial financial contribution to its football program. According to reporting from Ben Bolch of the California Post, alumnus and dedicated benefactor Angelo Mazzone III has committed $10 million to the university.

The donation is designated to endow the head coach position and bolster key departments focused on the growth and success of student-athletes. Bob Chesney, who is set to begin his tenure as the Bruins' head coach in 2026, expressed his profound appreciation for the gesture.

«A gift of this magnitude from such a dedicated, impactful and cherished member of the Bruin family is deeply humbling,» Chesney stated. «Angelo’s commitment reflects an unwavering belief in what this program stands for. We will work every day to honor that trust.»

A Legacy of Dedication

Mazzone’s relationship with UCLA spans decades. After earning both his bachelor’s degree and his law degree from the institution, he made his initial contribution in 1977. Despite leaving the campus in 1982 to pursue various business opportunities, his loyalty to the football team remained constant.

His commitment is evidenced by his extraordinary attendance record: he has reportedly attended every single UCLA home game and has missed fewer than 10 away games over the course of nearly 60 years.

«UCLA has been responsible for all the greatest things that have happened in my life,» said Mazzone. «Much of what I have accomplished is going right back there. I am indebted to the relationships I’ve enjoyed with so many very special people as part of the UCLA Football family.»

Institutional Gratitude

Martin Jarmond, the UCLA Athletic Director, also shared his gratitude regarding the significant investment. He highlighted the importance of such support for the long-term stability and development of the athletic department.

«On behalf of UCLA Athletics, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Angelo for this extraordinary commitment to our football program,» Jarmond remarked. «This generous gift strengthens the foundation of our program, not only for the Bruins of today, but also for future generations.»
