Season Outlook for Owusu-Koramoah

The Cleveland Browns have confirmed that linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will remain sidelined for the entire upcoming season. The organization made the move official on Friday by placing the standout defender on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

This personnel shift effectively removes the 2023 Pro Bowler from the team's 90-man active roster, ensuring he will not be eligible to return to the field during the current campaign.

Recovery and Future Uncertainty

Owusu-Koramoah has been out of action since sustaining a neck injury during a game in October 2024. The long-term severity of the issue became apparent earlier this year when Browns General Manager Andrew Berry expressed significant doubt regarding the 26-year-old's ability to continue his professional football career.

During his hiatus from the sport, the linebacker has focused on academics, enrolling in a master’s degree program for public policy at Harvard University.

The Decision Process

In a previous discussion with the team's media department, Owusu-Koramoah shared insights into the rigorous rehabilitation process he has undertaken. He noted that his primary focus has been consulting with medical experts to gauge the long-term impact of his injury.

«For my recovery, I have been resting and going through different treatments, whether it's soft tissue work, needling or other forms of therapy. But most importantly, I've been in deep conversation with specialists and physicians trying to understand the true risks of returning. It's not just whether I can play again; it's about understanding the cost of continuing and making a decision with one-hundred percent certainty.»

Career Background

Drafted out of Notre Dame in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Owusu-Koramoah established himself as a vital defensive piece. After gaining experience in his first two seasons, he experienced a breakout year in 2023. During that campaign, he tallied:

  • 71 solo tackles
  • 20 tackles for loss
  • 3.5 sacks
  • 2 interceptions

His performance during that season solidified his status as a key member of a defensive unit that also features stars like Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward.
