A Hard-Fought Victory in Charlotte
Layne Riggs claimed victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, concluding a race weekend that saw three postponements due to heavy rainfall. Navigating the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford, Riggs secured his seventh career win and his second of the 2026 campaign.
Following the race, an emotional Riggs paid tribute to the late NASCAR icon Kyle Busch by bowing to the crowd—a signature gesture Busch was known for after his victories. "Just our hearts are really heavy this weekend, kind of struggling with it a little bit," Riggs remarked. "Great job to everybody at Front Row Motorsports, thanks so much to my teammate Chandler Smith. He stuck with me on that restart there."
Record-Breaking Chaos on the Track
The race was defined by its chaotic nature, setting a series record for the most cautions at Charlotte with eleven interruptions, despite the event being shortened due to time constraints. The podium was rounded out by Kaden Honeycutt in second and Connor Zilisch in third, while Ben Rhodes and Gio Ruggiero took fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Race Progression and Staged Battles
Stage 1 and 2: The event began on a frantic note, with early leadership battles involving Corey Day and Christian Eckes. Stage 1 saw Eckes emerge victorious after an aggressive maneuver. In the second stage, Luke Baldwin’s truck caught fire, necessitating a caution. Shortly after, Corey Day suffered a frightening, airborne crash after contact with Ruggiero, though he fortunately avoided the wall upon landing. Riggs managed to take the stage win.
Stage 3: The final segment was defined by a series of accidents and tactical restarts as the time limit approached. A collision involving Brenden Queen and Kris Wright, along with various spins throughout the field, repeatedly bunched the pack. With just five minutes remaining on the clock, a final incident involving Chandler Smith and Ross Chastain triggered the decisive caution. The race did not return to green, and officials declared Riggs the winner.
Rounding out the top ten finishers were Christian Eckes, Brandon Jones, Taylor Gray, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and William Sawalich.
