The Los Angeles Rams have promoted pass game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase to the position of offensive coordinator, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter. He replaces Mike LaFleur, who departed to become head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone will also serve as co-offensive coordinator.

Scheelhaase's promotion positions him as a strong candidate for a future NFL head-coaching role. He was previously a finalist for the Cleveland Browns' head-coaching position and interviewed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Notably, four of the Rams' last five offensive coordinators have secured head-coaching jobs in the league.

Scheelhaase has been with the Rams for two seasons, initially as an offensive assistant and passing game specialist before becoming pass game coordinator. His last offensive coordinator role was in 2023 at Iowa State under Matt Campbell. His coaching background includes four years at Iowa State and three at his alma mater, the University of Illinois, where he was a former quarterback.

The Rams' offense excelled last season, ranking first in total and passing yards. Quarterback Matthew Stafford won MVP, while wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams had standout performances.
