INDIANAPOLIS — The UConn Huskies' challenge in the national championship game against Michigan may have grown more daunting. Junior guard Solo Ball, the team's third-leading scorer, is questionable for Monday night's contest due to a foot sprain sustained in the semifinal victory over Illinois.
Head coach Dan Hurley stated that Ball is wearing a walking boot and did not practice Sunday. "I don't really know," Hurley said when asked about Ball's availability, adding they would know more later in the day. An MRI on Easter Sunday may also be difficult to obtain.
Ball injured his foot in a first-half collision with teammate Tarris Reed Jr. during Saturday's game. He described himself as "feeling alright" but will defer to the medical staff's decision. "I've been preparing for tomorrow like any other game," Ball said.
Ball has started all 38 games this season, averaging 12.9 points. He finished the semifinal with 13 points. If he cannot play or is limited, reserve guards Malachi Smith and Jayden Ross would likely see increased minutes.
