Although the Texans have already exercised the fifth-year option on Stroud’s current contract and publicly maintained their confidence in his leadership, a challenging conclusion to the 2025 season appears to have influenced the team’s strategic pacing.
Management's Perspective
Texans owner Cal McNair recently addressed the status of the quarterback’s future during a media session. While he refrained from detailing specific ongoing discussions between Stroud’s representatives and General Manager Nick Caserio, he offered a clear statement of support.
«We’ll leave that up to Nick and those communications are behind the scenes, but, yeah, we’re fully committed to C.J. We exercised his fifth-year option and we’ll see how that all works out,» McNair stated, according to reports from KPRC.
Looking Ahead
Given that the fifth-year option provides the team with immediate security and there has been no outward pressure from Stroud’s camp for an expedited deal, the organization appears comfortable waiting. It is likely that finalizing a long-term contract for the quarterback will become a primary priority during the upcoming offseason, at which point the landscape of the negotiations may shift based on future performance and team needs.
